Supporting the Monroe County Library System

Vote YES on the August 4, 2020 Renewal

Our Monroe County Library System is asking for a renewal of the one mill tax levy which funds over 75% of the Library’s operating budget. Without this renewal, it would be impossible for the Library to continue the invaluable services we as Monroe County residents have come to know and love. The requested renewal is NOT a new or additional tax. We ask that all residents vote YES and support our Library!

How a YES Vote Supports the Library

Millage funding makes up 75% of the Library’s operating budget. Voting YES on the renewal means continued funding for Library staff, services, materials, and technology. Like any other tax supported institution such schools, museums, or fire departments, the loss of operating funds would render the Library unable to provide the quality services we citizens have come to rely upon.

Without this support, the Library would be forced to operate on traffic penal fine income alone, which make up only 13% of the Library’s income.

Election Dates

The primary election is on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Voters must be registered by Monday, July 20, 2020. As of June 2020, all registered Michigan voters are also eligible to vote by mail. Voters can use the Michigan Voter Information Center, provided by the Michigan Secretary of State to:

I just wanted to share that I love your curb side pick up! It was like having a personal shopper…. you selected the perfect books for my children, probably better than I could have picked! I appreciate all that you do. I was so happy to have my library back in business!
